Dennis Welch has always been a word guy. From the tender age of four when he learned quite by accident that he could spell, he’s loved words and the power of a great sentence and story.
“My mother came home from seeing Santa Claus and she spelled it out for my dad,” he says. “Somehow I knew how to interpret that.” Dennis would spend a lot of his early years in the school library, reading Mark Twain, E.B. White, and others, learning about the value of a well-crafted tale, and how words can inspire and forever change the way one thinks.
Dennis has contributed short stories, articles, and essays for various publications over the years, but in some ways, this book came as a complete surprise. After interviewing his mom every Saturday morning for a few months, he began writing Rich People Shop Here, thinking that he would just go down to the local office supply and print off copies for the younger relatives in his family. Along the way, a veteran of the publishing business began reading the manuscript and strongly encouraged Dennis to publish it, saying that the book would inspire and encourage people with its message and story.
And so, Rich People Shop Here was born. It is Dennis’ first book.
Dennis is married to Susie and they have two sons, Daniel and Dylan. They also have two grandchildren, Alexis and Matthew.
Susie and Dennis live in Austin, Texas.
